How I Help My Clients
  • I collaborate with clients’ veterinarians by reporting my observations and providing progress updates
  • I have been praised for my ability to calmly and effectively counsel clients in crisis
  • I strive to make training a fun and enriching experience for the dogs in my care
  • I interact with my human students in an engaging and relatable manner and explain concepts in ways that are easy to understand
  • I teach dogs AND their people with patience and empathy
  • I give my clients the tools they need to think through everyday challenges with their dogs

What I've Done in My Dog Training Career
  • I have forty years experience training dogs
  • I have participated in speaking engagements to advocate for ethics in the unregulated industry of dog training
  • I received my Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA CTP) designation from the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior in 2015
  • I have done training, dog training instruction, and behavior consulting for several animal welfare organizations locally over the past 10 years
  • I have taught and mentored other trainers
  • I am proud that veterinarians, other dog trainers, and animal shelters in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County refer clients to me

What is Most Important to Me
  • Promoting consumer awareness and education about ethics in dog training
  • Ending the needless deaths of dogs for preventable behavior problems
  • Advocating for the “Socially Conscious Sheltering” model and currently accepted best animal care practices

What I Want the Public to Know
  • So many of what we consider “dog behavior problems” are actually symptoms of dogs’ unmet mental and physical needs
  • It IS absolutely possible to teach a dog to listen without hurting or scaring them
  • Forget about reality television and YouTube trainers who told you to dominate your dog. Form an alliance with your dog based upon kindness and mutual respect

What I Enjoy Most About My Job

I enjoy educating the public about dog training and behavior. I wish I could bottle the feeling of seeing a client smile in amazement when their dog does something they thought was impossible.
